Manipulating Energy

“Everyone must leave something behind when he dies…

Something your hand touched in some way, so your soul has somewhere to go when you die…

It doesn’t matter what you do, so long as you change something from the way it was before you touched it

into something that’s like you after you take your hands away.”

Ray BradburyFahrenheit 451

Manipulating Energy Bubble

I’m watching her closely. My granddaughter is filling her small bag with blocks, crayons, and cartoon characters. When she’s satisfied she moves to the other side of the room and unpacks it all, oblivious to any external stimuli beyond the task. Once all the items are carefully placed she returns to fill her bag yet again. This process plays out over and over again.

“What’s she doing?” I query myself. “What’s she really doing?”

And then I smile. The answer comes to me. She’s learning to manipulate energy. That’s what she’s doing. That’s all she’s doing.

I think about why souls choose to come to planet Earth and I believe this is one of the core reasons. We come here to learn to manipulate energy. Earth is a school, a training ground, a practice field. Here, bounded by gravity, time, accountability for choices, and mortality – we learn both the blessings and the consequences of energy manipulation.

As I type this it’s a cool morning in Maine. I’m looking out across the glass front to my office through the glass walls and windows of our conference room to the sawmill across the street.  Steam is rising from the dry kilns and drifting east with the current of the air towards the rising sun. In those kilns we are manipulating energy to dry our lumber, heat our buildings, and generate power. It’s all energy manipulation.  To the left the planing mill is running. I’m not currently in there but I know its running. Inside, humans at work are pulling and separating boards, inspecting, and packaging lumber, and interacting with each other. It’s all energy manipulation. As this happens I am typing. Pushing buttons to create words designed to elicit thought. That’s energy manipulation too. To my right a candle burns.

“One of the biggest lessons you come to Earth to learn is how to manipulate energy.

You can’t get out of Earth school until you learn how to manipulate energy.

What does that mean?

You have to learn to create because this is how powerful your mind is. You can create anything.

Dolores Cannon

There’s a saying I use with my family and it goes like this: “There’s a world in which I am making pancakes for breakfast tomorrow” or “There’s a world in which we are playing pickleball this afternoon.” I like the phrase, “There’s a world in which” to start a sentence as it speaks to the countless choices we make each day about which energies we want to manipulate next.  That’s what we spend all our time doing on Earth. When I hug you, that’s energy manipulation. When I laugh, cry, run, pause, whisper, listen, or shake your hand I am manipulating energy. A child innately knows that the world is about energy manipulation and to watch my granddaughters explore their world is a wonder in this way.

It’s now Saturday morning and we are all at our favorite breakfast spot, Blueberries. My granddaughter is locked into a highchair (against her will). The parent and child were in an energy manipulation contest over that one. The parent won because adults have more command of energy manipulation than toddlers. Now settled, Sumner is taking the wrappers off straws. Not a straw, but all the straws. Why? Well now you know why. She’s learning to manipulate energy.

‘What’s the world’s greatest lie?’ the boy asked.

It’s this: that at a certain point in our lives we lose control of what’s happening to us,

and our lives become controlled by fate. That’s the world’s greatest lie.”
